Centre County Affordable Housing Coalition - VideoGood Shepherd Catholic Church (State College) Two Feet of Love in Action Service ProjectAbout UsHistory:
The Centre County Affordable Housing Coalition was formed in 1996 in response to concerns about cuts in U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Federal Emergency Management Assistance (FEMA) funding. At that time, the Coalition was comprised of 12 members representing 7 organizations. As of January 2011 the Coalition has grown to 133 members representing 63 organizations. Currently, five committees were created to further the Coalition mission. Today those Committees are: Workforce Housing, Housing Ladder, Education, Membership and Summit. Goals: • To provide information and raise awareness about the need for, the benefits of and best practices in affordable housing. • To forge partnerships to broaden the base of support for affordable housing. • To coordinate public, private and nonprofit housing programs to better serve the low– and moderate-income residents of Centre County. • To monitor local, state and federal housing policy and funding, and alert our members and the broader community to opportunities and threats. • To monitor the countywide housing market to determine changing physical, social and economic conditions and their immediate and future effect on the housing situation. • To promote decent, safe, affordable and accessible housing for all residents of Centre County, especially those with low– and moderate-incomes, the elderly and persons with special needs. • To assist community groups, housing partners, developers, funders and policy-makers in the preservation, rehabilitation and development of affordable housing. YIMBY CAMPAIGN
YIMBY is an acronym for Yes in My Backyard, in contrast and opposition to the NIMBY (Not in My Backyard) phenomenon.
YIMBY can be described as something the people demand to be put in their area. Informal YIMBY coalitions exist in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Stockholm, Oslo, Phoenix, Seattle, and elsewhere to provide community support for affordable housing or market-rate property development over the opposition of NIMBY.
YIMBY aims to build a movement across Centre County supporting the development of new affordable housing.
YIMBY supports the idea that all communities in Centre County must provide a diversity of housing options for their residents.
